Since we implemented inline display of YouTube clips at like/diss, we have had request of doing the same with content from other video and photo sites. This requires a case-by-case implementation and monitoring of the sites.
Now we might see a solution to that problem ahead. An early draft of a specification for how consuming services can access content from providing sites has been published by Flickr and Pownce.

Well, what are you waiting for, there are already six providers who have implemented this.
Are you thinking of being a provider as well and not only a consuming site? The oEmbed type can be “rich” or “link” and I guess that can serve like/diss content to other consumers.

@Sanchez, we will wait a while to see if the specification can mature, with the current status of the spec there is a significant risk that we will have to modify the implementation quite often.
What we are missing in the spec is a standardized url format, as you can see at the bottom of the spec, each provider has it’s own url pattern so we still need to parse that case-by-case.
For the other question, if we are thinking of being a provider of oEmbeded content as well, that is dependent of when we are opening like/diss for everyone. As it is today when we are in a “private beta mode”, no one apart from the beta testers can consume the content here.
