An anti-democracy movement disguised as oppressed underdogs.
The Thai PAD movement’s long term goals are to either dismantle democracy and to reinstate the King (what’s wrong with him being worshipped and praised, but with the political power with the Parliament, really?) or at least to pervert it by reducing the value of country-side votes in favour of city votes. Sounds a lot like the bad old pre-democracy argument used in Europe some century(-ies) ago: “How could those ignorant peasants and workers be allowed to vote, they have no education, no style. No, let us - the elite, protect them against their own stupidity - and keep the power close to our chest).
